Information about
Canine Respiratory Illness

We at Wanderlust take the recent reports of a Canine Respiratory Disease in our are very seriously, and have created this page to explain how we operate and the additional measures we are taking to keep the pets in our care safe.

The OVMA currently recommends all pet owners be aware and cautious when taking their dogs places where transmission between pets is more likely, especially those who are immune compromised or have another existing illness. Fortunately, a grooming salon where dogs do not free roam/interact with one another is a low risk location. We understand and respect that owners will have varying levels of comfort in this situation, and are happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
At this time we recommend all pets be up to date on all appropriate vaccines as recommended by their veterinarian, and for owners to research additional ways to boost their pet's immunity if possible. We will continue to monitor the situation as more information becomes available and update as needed.

Up to date information from the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association can be found here:

-------------------------------------------

By design, we are fortunate to operate in a way that already decreases the risk of transmission between pets:

- All of our groomers only ever have one dog scheduled at a time - this keeps our volume very low, with a small number of dogs in the salon at any given time.

- All dogs are groomed straight through ("express" services), which greatly decreases time spent waiting in the salon around other dogs.

- Dogs are required to be picked up within 1 hour of completion - this also keeps the number of dogs in the salon at a low level, and prevents any one dog from being there all day long

- We use a broad spectrum pet industry specific disinfectant throughout the day and between pets which kills many types of bacteria and viruses including Bordatellabronchiseptica (Kennel Cough) and Canine Influenza.

- No dogs in our facility are ever permitted to roam free, or to come into physical contact with another pet. When not being groomed, dogs are kept in kennels and separated from one another by a solid barrier (No nose to nose contact).

- Our salon is equipped with industrial sized whole room ventilation systems, which effectively circulate fresh air directly from the outside all day long.

- There are no shared/communal water bowls in our salon.

- Our policies do not allow any dogs who are exhibiting signs of illness to be brought in for grooming appointments.

In addition to these everyday precautions, we are:

- Increasing cleaning and disinfecting protocols beyond our typical amount

- Asking pet owners to reschedule if they have noticed any symptoms of illness with their pet in our reminder texts

- Confirming at drop off that their pet has not had any symptoms of illness, and if we were to discover them during the appointment they will be isolated and sent home immediately.

We are asking all pet owners to respect each dog's personal space during drop off & pick up, and no more than one family of dogs to be in our lobby at a time.
